How do you define a community?
“A social group of any size whose members reside in a specific locality, share government, and often have a common cultural and historical heritage.” - dictionary.com

versus the original concept…

From the City of Sedona’s own website: click here
Sadly, NOWHERE is there a FAQ sheet telling Sedonans the number of people who will be able to use the park at one time, how many cars can park on the premises, or the current cost of construction.
Barbara’s Park is taking the Posse Grounds to the next level… to give the residents in Sedona the ability to gather, celebrate, and come together. But to what extent, is the issue.
With the loss of the Cultural Park, Sedonans look for an alternative sight for plays, concerts, and community events. The City Council must decide if funding Barbara’s Park at the Posse Grounds is a prudent decision. While the people in the neighborhood are used to the events at the Posse Grounds, will the City Council be sympathetic to the concerns of the neighborhood about noise, traffic, etc? Or will they vote to further along the project?
We’ll have to see…

Thank you Kathy – To answer your questions. Your neighborhood issue were addressed with the task force in ’08. Features have been added to help with the issues. A berm will now be under that row of trees you see and the dome itself is designed to contain sound. The facility provides shade for the audience as well as protecting the performers from the weather, be it sun, rain, or wind. It is a day time facility, dawn to dusk and is for 300 people. The parking will support that number. The facility has restrooms, performer rooms and storage. The facility can host everything from youth acting classes to our Verde Valley Sinfonietta. Seating is picnic style just like the good ole days. The city has 1,252,000 in the budget to build. Friends of the Posse Ground has paid for all the design work and has
additional $$ to kick in. Getting this built will be a great win win for our community. Thank you for supporting
it. Madeleine O’Callaghan, President Friends of the Posse Grounds – go to our website barbarasppark.com
Madeleine, thank you so much for the explanation. My wish for you, the City, visitors, and all Sedonans, is to have this park. Let’s hope that the economic times do not derail the project.
Oh oh – typed to many letters on the website – barbaraspark.com or friendsofthepossegrounds.com
thanks
